I have painted this mule deer once before. She has such a wonderful face. The first painting was small, 8″ x 8″ and almost all in grays so it was fun to do her again in a more colorful presentation.
The mule deer (mulies) are my favorite. They’re not as aggressive as the whitetail and tend to be the underdogs, chased into the tougher, less desirable country by the whitetail. I suppose that’s one of the reasons I am always so happy to see them – confirmation that they’re well and still around. They’re so graceful – a joy to watch moving through the field.
A Snapping Twig is an oil, 20″ x 20″ and is available in our show at Creighton Block Gallery in Big Sky, MT. this week. Reception Tuesday night!
Another beauty!! Oh, I so wish I could be there….
I love Mulies, too. She’s so lovely and I like the “quick” brush strokes/lines in this piece – lending to the sense that she could spring away in a split sec!
