I am getting ready to pack up for the Big Sky Art Festival, which happens this Saturday, August 1st in Big Sky, MT. I’ve enjoyed doing this mosaic of smaller paintings, a good exercise for me mentally. The painting I’m showing you now is the second done from photos I had taken of Crocus sprouting forth in the early spring. I especially like this little painting. It is only 8″ x 8″ and is called “The First to Bloom”.

The flowers depicted are Crocus, or Prairie Smoke, and are the first native flowers to peek through the mountain snow in the spring along the Divide. Their appearance always causes excitement, as they testify to the fact that winter will not last much longer. This painting is an oil, 12″ x 16″ and is sold.
