Big Sky Art & Design

Laurie Stevens GilleonBorn in Billings, Montana - raised there and in Arizona, Laurie’s spirit has been nurtured and shaped in the west. At the naive age of twenty, she moved to LA to pursue a career in the arts. Laurie was among the first wave of women to work in that end of “the business”, and spent twelve years working for the TV, motion picture and entertainment industries as a scenic artist and muralist. She has also done set design for theater and theme park design groups, matte paintings for a Brothers Grimm television special, illustration and various mural commissions.

Laurie has recently done set design for the Missouri River Dance Company and the Great Falls Symphony for the ballet “The Tremendious Journey” and the opera “Poia”, both Lewis & Clark Bicentennial Signature events. She is currently working on a large portrait project for Phillips Academy in Andover, MA.

Laurie and her family have for many years lived again in Montana; first in the Rocky Mountains out of Augusta, and now on their ranch out of Cascade. When doing her own work, she especially enjoys painting landscapes in and of our beautiful state, and the interaction between animals or people and their environment. Laurie loves attempting to capture the emotional essence of her subject, and that “golden time” when light casts an amazing aura on the landscape.

She also enjoys dimensional design as a set designer. Especialy intriguing to her is the addition of stage lighting and the third dimension to her palette. Laurie’s work is shown in regional galleries and shows. She is a founding member of the Montana Painters Alliance.
